Calendar-correct math with real month lengths and full leap year rules - including February 29 birthdays and century years like 1900 and 2000.
Your birth date is personal data. Here it never leaves your browser - no server, no analytics, no storage. The page works offline.

How age is calculated
Your exact age is the answer to three questions, asked in order: how many full years since your birth date, then how many full months since your last birthday, then how many days since your last month-anniversary. The reason this needs a calculator at all is that months are different lengths - 28 to 31 days - so "3 months and 5 days ago" cannot be worked out with simple subtraction.
Leap years add the famous wrinkle: a year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, except century years, which must be divisible by 400. So 2000 and 2024 are leap years; 1900 and 2100 are not. Over the 400-year Gregorian cycle that averages years to 365.2425 days, which is also why "average month" figures (like the ones used in the totals above) come out to 30.44 days.
Edge cases explain why two calculators can disagree by a day: if you were born on the 31st, most months have no 31st, and if you were born on February 29, most years have no February 29. This tool clamps overshooting month-anniversaries to the month's last day and counts a February 29 birthday as completed on March 1 in common years - the most widely used conventions.
What age do you turn in 2026?
Subtract your birth year from the current year to get the age you turn on your birthday this year. Whether you are already that age today depends on whether your birthday has passed:
| Born in | Age you turn in 2026 |
|---|---|
| 1940 | 86 |
| 1950 | 76 |
| 1960 | 66 |
| 1970 | 56 |
| 1980 | 46 |
| 1990 | 36 |
| 1995 | 31 |
| 2000 | 26 |
| 2005 | 21 |
| 2008 | 18 |
| 2010 | 16 |
| 2015 | 11 |
Not every culture counts this way: the traditional East Asian system counted newborns as one year old and added a year each New Year. South Korea, the last country using it officially, switched to the international system in 2023.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my exact age?
Count the full years from your birth date to today, then the full months since your last birthday, then the days since your last month-anniversary. The tricky part is that months have different lengths, which is exactly what this calculator handles - enter your date of birth and it returns your age to the day, plus totals in days, hours, and minutes.
How does the calculator handle leap years and February 29 birthdays?
Leap years are applied exactly: every 4th year, except century years not divisible by 400 (2000 was a leap year; 1900 and 2100 are not). If you were born on February 29, this calculator counts your birthday as March 1 in common years - the moment you have fully completed the year. Some jurisdictions use February 28 instead, which shifts the result by one day.
Why do different age calculators give slightly different answers?
Because "a month" is ambiguous when the start day doesn't exist in the target month - is January 31 plus one month February 28 or March 1? Different tools pick different conventions for these edge cases, so the days figure can differ by a day or two. This calculator uses the most common convention: a month anniversary that overshoots is clamped to the last day of the month.
What day of the week was I born?
Enter your date of birth above and the result shows your birth weekday instantly. It is computed from the calendar itself (the Gregorian calendar repeats over a 400-year cycle), so it is exact for any date.
How many days until my birthday?
The result panel includes a live countdown: the date of your next birthday, which weekday it falls on, how many days remain, and the age you will turn. If today is your birthday, it says so - happy birthday!
How many days old am I?
Enter your birth date and the calculator shows your exact total of days lived (along with weeks, hours, and minutes). Fun milestones to watch for: 10,000 days falls at about age 27.4, and 20,000 days at about age 54.8.
Is my birth date uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. All calculations run in JavaScript in your browser - your date of birth is never transmitted, logged, or stored. This page makes no network requests at all after loading.
Does the age calculator work offline?
Yes. The entire tool is one self-contained page with no server calls, so once it has loaded it keeps working without a connection. Save it to your device and use it anywhere.
